Is acupuncture right for your patient or client?
When trying to determine whether or not your client may be a good candidate for acupuncture, keep these questions in mind. If you answer YES to any of the following questions, acupuncture can be of great help for your client:
- Your client is having difficulty calming their nervous system and relaxing their mind. (Acupuncture works on the sympathetic nervous system. Patients leave sessions feeling calm, content and relaxed)
- Your client is experiencing pain. This may be related to their emotion or not. (Acupuncture is known for relieving pain. Stress, anxiety, depression, excessive worrying or irritability very often times shows expresses itself as headaches, stomach pain (ibs), fibromyalgia, neck, shoulder or upper back pain)
- Your client is having trouble sleeping.
- Your client is reluctant to try pharmaceuticals and would prefer to try a natural approach first.
Clients who receive acupuncture are encouraged to continue with their counseling sessions. Research has shown, that receiving both treatments together make a bigger impact on the healing process then the use of one treatment alone. Ideally, clients should receive their acupuncture treatment after a therapy session (within 1-2 days). Download our patient quiz: AcupunctureQuiz (Is acupuncture right for your patient)
